Lymington Sprint Triathlon race report by Paul Edmonds:
"Southampton Triathlon Club use this locally run event as their Club Championships so I knew who my main rivals were as I train with some of them during the week.
An early start as usual and with the swim being in the sea water lido, we were set of at 10 second intervals in waves of 3!
2 laps made much more fun as we had to dodge the inflatables set up for the summer! Busy turns but luckily I don't get too phased by having my legs swam over so ploughed round posting the second fastest time overall....a good start.
Transition was a 3 minute run away and all went smoothly and as quick as could be expected with a descent flying leap into the saddle!
Frustratingly, my main rival was on my heels within the first couple of miles and I had to watch him climb away from me and ride off into the distance as my legs hadn't warmed up! Another rider passed me and had put in a descent gap by half way however my legs had woken up and I hauled him back in by T2 which was an added mental boost that things may be looking up.
Missing the timing chip mat on the way into T2 is not recommend as having to turn around with your bike to do a double take just costs seconds I unfortunately didn't have spare!
Out onto the run with the chap I finished the bike leg with and he was setting a solid pace, marginally faster than I would normally run alone. Sticking with him was ok for the first mile or so but a gap opened slowly and by the turnaround he was a good 20 paces ahead and growing.
It turned into a solid run but only enough for 3rd overall. Generally pleased other than my disappointing bike leg. Perhaps I should stick with the Standard distance to benefit from the longer bike! "
